We are trying to get back on track with our featured members…next to Christmas, spring/summer is a super busy time for boudoir photographers with all the brides booking shoots to surprise their hubby-to-be with some sexy photos.
Today we are excited to share some outstanding images and an interview with Laura Stapleton from Secret Sessions by Magnolia Photographic.

Why did you start doing boudoir photography?
Boudoir photography started to catch on several years ago, and in turn my clients started asking for it. In response to this demand, I did a few sessions and I was hooked! The sessions were so much fun, and even better, the photos were so rewarding for my clients and their self-confidence! I decided to make boudoir photography a larger part of my business and ever since then, it’s continued to grow.

How long have you been a boudoir photographer?
I started doing boudoir photography back in 2006. I’ve photographed weddings and portraits since 2002, so it was natural addition to my services, and at that time made me one of the first in Vancouver to offer boudoir photography.

What do you feel is your strength or superpower when it comes to boudoir?
I feel that my boudoir superpower is how I engage my clients during their shoot – I ask them about their motivations for doing boudoir photos, ask them about activities and entertainment they enjoy, general life stuff! Most importantly, I try to make them laugh! All of my clients are nervous when they first start their session, so a bit of conversation and a few laughs goes a long way to getting them relaxed!

What is the most unique place you’ve done a session (or would like to do a session)?
I’ve done boudoir sessions in hotels, on a beach, in a client’s home, and of course in my studio – but if I had to come up with a unique place for a session, I’d be split between two options: either the rooftop of a skyscraper, or a swanky penthouse suite on a cruise ship.

For you, what is the hardest part of business and what is the easiest part?
The hardest part of business is the paperwork! Invoices, taxes, bookkeeping – it’s not that difficult, just very boring for a creative person, which makes it hard! The easiest part by far is photographing my clients – this is actually when I work the hardest, but it’s also the most fun and therefore the easiest!

What kind of camera do you shoot with? Favourite lens(es)?
I shoot with Canon cameras and lenses, and my current favourite lens is my 50mm 1.2 – basic but versatile!

Show us your favourite image from 2012 and why is it your favourite?
This image (below) is my current favourite because it is from one of my first sessions at my new studio. It’s been my dream for a long time to have my own in-house boudoir studio, and this image represents the realization of that dream for me.

What’s been your most memorable moment as a boudoir photographer?
My most memorable moment as a boudoir photographer happened right at the end of last year. I opened my inbox and read an inquiry that moved me more than any other. It was from a young woman with two little daughters, who had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and would be having a double mastectomy in two weeks. She wanted to do a boudoir session as a commemoration to her body in it’s current state. I was beyond touched that she entrusted me with this very important task, and I will never forget the experience.
