Lady Gaga Inspired Boudoir Shoot

Today we have a gorgeous Lady Gaga inspired photoshoot by Steph from La Photographie Nashville.

Here’s what Steph had to say about the shoot:

” Coley is a great friend of mine who is celebrating some big life changes. She is a super-creative, and channels her love for art and fashion into sparkly costume pieces and decor. She’s made an antler helmet, a cone bra (a la Gaultier), and has helped glue and sew close to a zillion rhinestones and sequins. This girl knows her sparkle. In fact, we call her the Secretary of Sparkle.

She loves dressing up in Lady Gaga-inspired costumes, and has several to choose from. We decided to do half of her shoot as a fashion inspired boudoir glam, characterized by minimal jewelry, Coley’s amazing dark curls, bra tops and tight pencil skirts. The other half of our session utilized the wigs and Gaga costume pieces, with some direct inspiration from Lady Gaga’s Vanity Fair portraits.

Crystal Doughtie did an amazing job with Coley’s makeup, which was a consistent style throughout the shoot, except for a small change in lip color. The session took place at La Photographie Studios in Nashville, TN. Wardrobe was a combination of Coley + La Photographie.”

Featured Member: Magnolia Photographic

We are trying to get back on track with our featured members…next to Christmas, spring/summer is a super busy time for boudoir photographers with all the brides booking shoots to surprise their hubby-to-be with some sexy photos.

Today we are excited to share some outstanding images and an interview with Laura Stapleton from Secret Sessions by Magnolia Photographic.

Why did you start doing boudoir photography?

Boudoir photography started to catch on several years ago, and in turn my clients started asking for it. In response to this demand, I did a few sessions and I was hooked! The sessions were so much fun, and even better, the photos were so rewarding for my clients and their self-confidence! I decided to make boudoir photography a larger part of my business and ever since then, it’s continued to grow.

How long have you been a boudoir photographer?

I started doing boudoir photography back in 2006. I’ve photographed weddings and portraits since 2002, so it was natural addition to my services, and at that time made me one of the first in Vancouver to offer boudoir photography.

What do you feel is your strength or superpower when it comes to boudoir?

I feel that my boudoir superpower is how I engage my clients during their shoot – I ask them about their motivations for doing boudoir photos, ask them about activities and entertainment they enjoy, general life stuff! Most importantly, I try to make them laugh! All of my clients are nervous when they first start their session, so a bit of conversation and a few laughs goes a long way to getting them relaxed!

What is the most unique place you’ve done a session (or would like to do a session)?

I’ve done boudoir sessions in hotels, on a beach, in a client’s home, and of course in my studio – but if I had to come up with a unique place for a session, I’d be split between two options: either the rooftop of a skyscraper, or a swanky penthouse suite on a cruise ship.

For you, what is the hardest part of business and what is the easiest part?

The hardest part of business is the paperwork! Invoices, taxes, bookkeeping – it’s not that difficult, just very boring for a creative person, which makes it hard! The easiest part by far is photographing my clients – this is actually when I work the hardest, but it’s also the most fun and therefore the easiest!

What kind of camera do you shoot with? Favourite lens(es)?

I shoot with Canon cameras and lenses, and my current favourite lens is my 50mm 1.2 – basic but versatile!

Show us your favourite image from 2012 and why is it your favourite?

This image (below) is my current favourite because it is from one of my first sessions at my new studio. It’s been my dream for a long time to have my own in-house boudoir studio, and this image represents the realization of that dream for me.

What’s been your most memorable moment as a boudoir photographer?

My most memorable moment as a boudoir photographer happened right at the end of last year. I opened my inbox and read an inquiry that moved me more than any other. It was from a young woman with two little daughters, who had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and would be having a double mastectomy in two weeks. She wanted to do a boudoir session as a commemoration to her body in it’s current state. I was beyond touched that she entrusted me with this very important task, and I will never forget the experience.

Before and Afters

I love seeing the before and afters and the transformation clients go through. When they come through the door they are all already gorgeous women, each with some unique about them. It’s our job as photographers to bring out the best in them, enhance their beauty and make them feel like gold!

Enjoy a couple before and afters from some other fabulous boudoir photographers!

Sometimes when Ramona is doing makeup I do some shots of the process. I love the transformation you see with these images.

Emily Tishhouse of Boudoir Chic captured this very sexy image of her client! She looks like she is totally in the boudoir element here.

I love this real life image of Simply Boudoir‘s client with a couple boudoir shots afterwards! Gorgeous!

Next up is the ultra sexy before and after from Danea of Boudoir Coterie. I love before and afters for the fact that it’s the same lady in each image but just more glammed up!

Finally, Bri of Voulez Vous Boudoir with this amazing before and after! Flawless!

Danea - These are all fantastic!

I remember staying home sick from school and crossing my fingers that Jenny Jones would have a makeover show that day. LOL. I ♥ a good makeover!

A session with Lavish Boudoir

G was referred by a prior boudoir customer who said that she needed a chance to do something decadent.  She is the exact reason why I shoot boudoir photography for real women.  Her looks are killer, but I honestly think she has no idea just how gorgeous she is.  When a woman gets lost in tee-ball practice, yoga classes and the daily grind… she can forget that her beauty exists.  Who knew she’d look like she stepped off the pages of a magazine when we were done?

Feature of the Week: Carol Kerfoot Photography

Today we are featuring Carol Kerfoot, a boudoir photographer from Vancouver who has some fabulous natural light images.
How did you get started in boudoir photography
I’ve been photographing people for the better part of 5 years. During this time I discovered my passion was to create beautiful images of women. It all started when I photographed a couple of ladies and their motorcycles out on the pier in my hometown of White Rock B.C. It was amazing to see the beauty and to challenge both them and myself by doing something that may be a bit outside of our comfort zone. These images received alot of attention and the ladies were in love. It was incredibly empowering. I knew at that point that I needed to follow what inspires me. I would consider myself a person that can easily relate to the insecurities that many women have. I feel a great need to encourage women to push past those limitations and see themselves for their true beauty. All women are beautiful and I think all women need an opportunity to celebrate it.

What do you do for inspiration in posing, lighting, etc
I am inspired by so many things. Color, light, nature. I see beauty in experiencing life. I am a natural light photographer and I like to think that it extends nicely into my style. I was born and raised in a beautiful city on the west-coast. My love is for the beach. I am drawn to it and the beauty it holds. Sunlight, sun kissed skin and laughter. It all brings me great joy and inspiration when shooting. I want to create beautiful emotional images of women.
Do you have a certain approach or philosophy when it comes to retouching and editing?
I would consider my images to be clean simple and classic. I want to showcase the simple beauty of a woman and her natural surroundings. I do very little retouching. Being born into a family of artists I am drawn to color and will often look for that when I am shooting and editing. I recently  have been playing with some vintage actions that I may incorporate into some of my sessions but for the most I want my images to be a true visual of the woman in front of the camera.
What has been the highlight of 2012 so far? And anything you are looking forward to in 2012?
With this west-coast weather 2012 has started out slowly but there is so much Im looking forward to in the near future.  I have a few special projects planned for 2012. One coming up this Spring that I am really excited to put together and share. It will take place at a location that has a lot of meaning to me, and I’ve also been invited to photograph a very important and empowering set of images that is a great honor to be a part of.

Why boudoir?
In celebration of empowering women to see their true beauty.
There are a good amount of boudoir photographers in your area, how are you trying to set yourself apart?
There are many wonderful boudoir artists in the Vancouver area. to set myself apart I keep true to my style and specialize primarily in outdoor boudoir. I want my sessions to be an experience that you want to do again and again.I also offer creative portraits for business , high-school seniors and people in love. I believe there are clients for everyone. I want my style and my passion to be why people hire me. When you lose that passion then your journey will be over.

Share your favorite image of this year so far and tell us about it, why you love it
Here is a favorite image of this year so far. The reason I love it is because of the lesson behind it. I had my eye on this chair and the natural light that was falling on it. It was also during a session where I had to challenge myself to use studio style lighting equipment. Something that I don’t normally do. My eye kept going to the natural light coming from the hallway. This image was created when I chose to stay true to my style by  turning off the studio lighting and using the natural light. It was proof to me that I need to follow my heart and do what I love in a way that reflects my style and my eye for what I see as beautiful.
